Interviews : “We’re excited to be doing the tour with Drunk Mums” – An Interview with Aaron Beam (Red Fang)

By on April 26, 2018

Red Fang – Aaron Beam

Aaron Beam is the guitarist and vocalist in the Portland, Oregon based Red Fang. For fans of unabashed, humour-laced and fierce R-O-C-K music that are yet to sample the band’s cuts, the band are touring Australia in May.

Many in Australia who view AC/DC, Entombed, Hellacopters, Fu Manchu and Tumbleweed with affection are already tuning into Red Fang’s reckless abandon, something that Beam can understand.

“That makes sense. I mean especially if you think about the Bon Scott era of AC/DC was so – it had at least the same energy to it. Musically it was a little bit cleaner, sort of like more user-friendly. It had that same sort of like disregard for politeness, there’s a lot of sneering I guess in that kind of music. We don’t sneer, but I do think that we’re not really trying to fit into some sort of conventional mould as far as music that we’re actually producing.”

Touring Australia with the hysterically named Drunk Mums is a double bill sure to sate the desire of any rock fan, especially those looking for a good night out grooving to tunes and imbibing amber fluid (or a darker liquid…).

“We’re excited to be doing the tour with (Drunk Mums), doing a little package with them. We had a list of different support band possibilities sent over to us when we first looked into this tour as a possibility, and they stood out from the rest for sure. We’re also told by the guy arranging the tour in Australia that they have a pretty good draw. It’s exciting to be able to do a package tour coming down this time. Last time it was just us on our own. There’s something about the predictability of having another band that’s going to be the same every night that’s pretty nice.”

Touring and life on the road is par for course for the members of Red Fang. Demand for the band’s performances is evident through the volume of posts on social media however some fans are less perceptive than others.

“The most common form of seeing support or whatever you want to call it is basically whenever you post something on any kind of social media and immediately people’s reaction is, ‘Come to Madison’ or ‘Come to Australia’ or whatever. We get about the same number of requests for Madison, Wisconsin (as Australia). Of course, the way that usually works we’ll post something about playing in Minneapolis and we just played Madison two nights earlier and inevitably somebody will be like, ‘Come to Madison’, and we’ll say, ‘We were just there two nights ago, you idiot!’”
