Articles : Metal Obsession – European Summer Festival Preview (Leyendas del Rock)

By on May 22, 2017

Leyendas del Rock, or Legends of Rock, is a heavy metal festival in the Valencia region of Eastern Spain. The 12th edition of Leyendas del Rock, which will be my first is a veritable who’s who of metal and from a tier one perspective, I shall be a very happy metalhead indeed. Megadeth, Sabaton, Blind Guardian, and Amon Amarth. Then we get Arch Enemy, Epica, Hammerfall, and Max and Igor Cavalera performing all of Sepultura’s Roots which is one my favourite Sepultura albums. Rhapsody with Fabio Lione are on their farewell tour then there’s Rage, Magnum, Steve Harris’ British Lion, Primal Fear, Amaranthe, and Battle Beast. The list is longer than my flight from Australia.

There’s also a second stage, the Mark Reale/Riot stage, that features bands like Moonsorrow, Mike Tramp, Firewind, Masterplan, and Raven as well as Elvenking, Omnium Gatherum, Serious Black, Noctem, and Hitten. And like Masters of Rock in the Czech Republic, Leyendas del Rock has a strong focus on regional metal bands and for years I’ve wanted to catch bands like WarCry, Vhaldemar, Tigres, Lujuria, and especially Tierra Santa and Saratoga.

I love going to a new festival and I’m really looking forward to the experience. I’m expecting a pretty intense, incredibly warm four full days of heavy metal in Spain. I’m also expecting to come back with far too many CDs and t-shirts and to enjoy the Spanish hospitality and avoid their blood sausages (unless there’s a vegan version of it). And after the festival, I hope to jump over to Madrid or Barcelona to do some sightseeing before heading to Sabaton Open Air in Sweden.

70 bands. 4 days. And a metal pool. Hola España.
