Album Reviews : Oligarch – Hypocrisy Oath

By on July 7, 2016

a2272860558_16Make no mistake; Hypocrisy Oath is as raw as they come. The new EP from war metal mongers Oligarch is blistering from beginning to end, concluding as abruptly as it began. The production is unprocessed, which is suited to the style of music but may alienate some listeners. The lyrics cover the usual topics, and with the vocalist’s throaty, bellowed delivery, it won’t matter regardless.

There isn’t much variation to the musicality of the album; it starts without much fanfare, getting straight into furious chords with the occasional break in the form of an almost sludge-like section. The drumming is frantic and high velocity, which accompanies the dissonant and under-distorted tone of the guitar.

The highlights of the EP are found in “Suicide by Immolation” and “Futile Ressurection,” both furious, grind inspired tracks that pulsate with aggression; Hypocrisy Oath is worth a listen for fans of Beherit, Sarcofago, and even Anal Cunt.
