Interviews : “Expect a rush of brutal violence!” – An Interview With Cadaver Mutilator

By on September 9, 2014

Bangalore Open Air enjoys a reputation as India’s biggest metal festivals and the line-up for 2014 is as brutal as they come! Only a few days away, I had a quick chat with the lads from Cadaver Mutilator, a brutal death metal band hailing from Palermo, Italy who are really excited about their first international show!

Hey! How’s it going? This is the first time in India for Cadaver Mutilator! How do you guys feel about it and what are you expecting?

“Hi Prat! Thanks very much! Yeah, this is our first time out of Europe and we are very excited! We’re very curious to see what kind of scene we will find out and about the reaction of Indian fans.”

You guys classify yourselves as a brutal death metal band. When writing lyrics, composing music etc, what exactly do you base it on and where do you get your inspiration from?

“Usually we start from a cool guitar riff and then we put together all the ideas of each member in order to make the song as original as possible. For the lyrics we take inspiration from a lot of different elements: we talk about gore, splatter, sci-fi, ufology, and other weird stuff and we are also very influenced by our roots and tradition of Sicily. Sometimes we even talk about some Mafia story and crimes, in order to denunciate it.”

You released Murder Death Kill in 2013. How was the writing process for that album?

“Oh man, it was a nightmare! We started from some already written structures and, when our new drummer joined the band, we wrote all the missing parts as fast as possible. With regard to the style, we wanted to put more linear and memorable riffs, but still brutal and destructive, with more impact from the rhythmical section (compared, for example, to Nechronicles, that is more chaotic and full of tempo-changes).

With the success of Murder Death Kill, do you have any new material/album in the works?

“Absolutely! We’re are writing new material at the moment and we will dedicate our time to the new album soon after our gigs in October!”

Have you guys done any summer European festivals this year? Toured with any bands? If so, how was that experience?

“We made a tour with Dr. Gore and Dying Breed in east Europe this August, thanks to Hammer and Tombs. It was an amazing and incredibly funny experience: 10 days of traveling, playing in very cool places, visiting cities! It was truly amazing!”

Who would you say are some of your influences, both band/individual musicians?

“We are mainly influenced by the early American brutal death metal scene (Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation and Morbid Angel), but we take  a lot of inspiration from the modern ones, both from America and other countries. We are great fans of Aborted, Origin, Nile, Decapitated, Krisiun and many others!”

Besides brutal death metal, what are some other genres that you’re into?

“We listen to lot of bands of different genres: rock, heavy metal, progressive, fusion. We even listen to classical music!”

You’re going to play alongside some legendary metal bands like Rotting Christ, Destruction in Banglore! What is your opinion on these bands? Have you heard any of the Indian bands on the line-up?

We had the honor to play with both these great bands (more recently with Destruction in Palermo) and we can say that they’re both extremely talented with a lot of experience (they know how to make an epic show!). We can’t wait to play with them again! Unfortunately we don’t know any of the Indian bands and so we are very curious to hear their music and watch them play! I’m sure they will shock us!”

Apart from creating some of the heaviest, most brutal music, what does the band enjoy doing just to kick back and relax?

“We love to relax drinking  beer with our friends and laugh at some weird and funny videos on Youtube. Besides that, everyone has their own hobbies like go to the gym, take a ride with cross bike, read book or manga!”

Really curious, how did you come up with the name for the band ‘Cadaver Mutilator’?

“The name comes from a similitude with a pathologist, in a more gore-style of course!”

What can all the Indian metalheads at Bangalore Open Air expect from the mighty Cadaver Mutilator?

“THEY CAN EXPECT A RUSH OF BRUTAL VIOLENCE!”

Thank you for your time! Really looking forward to seeing you guys at B.O.A! Good luck and safe travels! =)

“Thanks to you Prat! Hope to see you there!”
