News : Saint Vitus touring Australia with Monarch

By on April 8, 2013

When it comes to “must-attend” tours, this is most certainly one for doom fans. Anybody who has seen France’s Monarch on any of their past Australian tours will attest to them being something truly, truly dark. And of course, Saint Vitus!

“SAINT VITUS are the godfathers of American Doom Metal. A statement weighing as heavy as this band sounds. Nonetheless, this is simply the truth.

Now considered one of the pioneering, and most influential, bands in the doom metal genre, back in 1978, when the band first came together, things couldn’t have been any more different. For one, they were originally called Tyrant; later changing their name to Saint Vitus in 1980, for another, Doom Metal was a genre that hadn’t yet been coined.

Long standing original members Dave Chandler and Mark Adams started Saint Vitus with original vocalist Scott Reagers and Drummer Armando Acosta. The classic line up featuring vocalist Scott ‘Wino’ Weinrich wouldn’t come into effect till 1986, and would dissolve a mere five years later, with only three studio albums to their name, plus two studio albums prior to Wino joining the band.

After seventeen years since the release of “Die Healing” (1995), SAINT VITUS now return with their eighth full-length masterpiece “Lillie: F-65”. This album includes the trademark song writing style so beloved by SAINT VITUS fans: There is the cataclysmic and unmistakable guitar sound of co-founder Dave Chandler full of reverbs, feedbacks, flanger and apocalyptic distortion leading to amazing solos. “Lillie: F-65” is furthermore graced with the deeply resonant vocals of Scott “Wino” Weinrich who returns to record an album with the band for the first time since the glorious “V” (1989) and whom many consider to be the classic SAINT VITUS vocalist.

Seventeen years after their last album, and nine years after their reunion, SAINT VITUS finally return with an album that will cement their status as true icons of Doom. The US legend is back and stronger than ever with “Lillie: F-65″

To make their maiden voyage to Australia all the more special, female fronted French funeral doom ensemble MONARCH, who will be making their 4th journey to Australian shores, will be joining Saint Vitus as main support.

This will un-doubtable be one of the heaviest, and loudest, tours of the year! A fierce collision of blackened doom from two of the heaviest pioneering artists.”
