By on October 5, 2012

Yes, that’s right. Another of Melbourne’s beloved music venues will be closing their doors. This time Melbourne’s most famed late night live music venue, Pony, have announced that they’ll be closing their doors on December 2nd after more than 12 years of success business within the heart of Melbourne’s musical community.

The news broke via The Age’s Sticky Carpet news section, that reports rising rent is the cause for the venue’s imminent closure.

ANOTHER Melbourne live-music venue is being forced out by rising rents, with late-night bar and band room Pony to close on December 2 after more than 12 years. ”We are sad to see it go but it is essentially a business decision based on not being able to agree on a rental that would work for us to operate long term into the future,” says Jon Perring, one of Pony’s three owners, who also owns the Tote, Bar Open and Yah Yah’s with business partners Andrew Portokallis and Sam Crupi.
