News : Soundwave now lacks Saxon and Jeff Hanneman

By on February 17, 2011

In a couple of rather big pieces of Soundwave news, it has been announced that Saxon have pulled out of the show, and Slayer will be performing without guitarist Jeff Hanneman.

While there doesn’t seem to be an official announcement anywhere, festival organiser AJ tweeted that Saxon have had to pull out due to a combination of album recording delays and illness in the family. There will apparently be no replacement, and instead the extra 30 minutes will be split between a small group of bands, including Dimmu Borgir and Slayer. As for what will happen with the Saxon/The Sword sideshows, your guess is as good as ours.

As for Jeff Hanneman, after contracting a rather serious infection in his arm resulting in a string of medical procedures, Slayer will be touring the country without him. Filling in his spot will be Exodus guitarist Gary Holt.
