News : Mhorgl's "Antinomian" now available

By on May 19, 2010

Perth black metallers Mhorgl have just released their brand new (and quite awesome) album Antinomian. It’s available for a bargain $15 including postage within Australia, via their Myspace page. We’ll have a review of the album up on the site sometime soon, but until then, here is a rough idea of what to expect, and you can hear the track ‘Nocturnal Blasphemy’ at their Reverbnation page.

“Antinomian (Pronunciation: an-ti-no-me-en), the second full length release from Australian Black Metal band Mhorgl is a devastating and focused musical assault inspired by the dark energy and raw sounds of traditional Black Metal masters such as Darkthrone, Gorgoroth, Bathory and Venom but with a modern feel and production values.

With the band’s focus shifting towards live performance Mhorgl have re-invented their sound, stripping it back and honing the aggressive nature of their songwriting. Utilising the solid and relentless battery associated with the black metal genre as a foundation Mhorgl seek to push the boundaries of the style with unusual song structures and harmonies punctuated by the savage lead work of guitarist Robert Thorpe. Cutting through the blistering instrumental onslaught are the vicious screams of vocalist Sam Moretta as he spits out ominous tales exploring themes of hatred, violence, and mankind’s perverse nature.”

Progressing from the symphonic dabblings of Mhorgl’s debut album The Sacrificial Flame, released in 2007, Antinomian sees a marked change in direction for the band toward a harder and more aggressive style. This change was shaped naturally as Mhorgl moved away from being a studio based recording project becoming a fully fledged live band with the addition of Louis “Disaster” Rando (Furor/Nervecell), one of Australia’s premier metal drummers to the fold.
