News : The Fevered post studio diary pt.1

By on May 10, 2010

Brisbane death/thrash band The Fevered have posted part 1 of the studio diary, chronicling the recording of their debut release.

“After a long wait we’ve finally started tracking for our yet-to-be-titled debut EP. We made the decision some time ago to do all the recording ourselves, and whilst it has taken its toll on our nerves, it is ultimately an incredibly rewarding experience. Consequently, everything you hear on the EP will be the product of our individual toils, recorded on our own gear (and the gear our good friends so graciously loaned us), tracked, mixed and mastered at our own hands.

Tracking of Drums and Bass was spread out over two 10AM to 12 midnight days spent holed up in the half-built studio room over at Station 13 studios. The room made the drums sound full and huge, and it will be a great studio if they ever get it finished.

We used Mark’s Lowrider Custom kit, mic’d with AKG Perceptions, Rode NT1-As, 57s and an AKG D112 on the kick. All this ran into JLM preamps, through a Lynx Aurora and into our Cubase equipped macbook pro. Thanks to his job, Mark got a grand total of two hours sleep in the forty eight hours of recording, but with the help of energy drinks he managed to pull through.

The bass was an active equipped Ibanez into an Ampeg SVT and Ampeg 6×10. We mic’d it with the AKG D112 and a 57, and also DI’d the bass and the SVT. The resulting growl caused a stirring in the loins.

Needless to say, we’re stoked to finally see the tracks taking shape, and hopefully you’ll enjoy them as much as we enjoy playing them.”

The band will be performing at the Brisbane show of the massive Oceanic Annihilation tour featuring Defamer and New Zealand’s Human.
