News : ISAW opening Adelaide's Soundwave festival

By on February 10, 2010

Triple J’s Unearthed competition has long been renowned for exposing raw talent from the most obscure sources, and this is no exception. Metal band ISAW has been seemingly plucked from the nether regions of Adelaide and is to be thrown up onto the big stage.

ISAW’s style is defined by their passion for numerous genres of metal, creating a canvas where a veritable variety of ideas can coexist. They aspire to create music that pushes their individual creative and physical boundaries while maintaining a delicate balance of musicality and song craftsmanship.

The five piece has been gigging locally for the last two years steadily building a following of loyal fans, but gaining any kind of recognition certainly hasn’t come quickly. “The metal scene is very much an underground scene, and that’s just how we like it” drummer Kim Fiddaman says, “it’s quite a difficult task to be recognised in this genre considering the talent and skill metal musicians must have, but if it were any other way then that recognition wouldn’t hold as much value”.

Hampered by members leaving and returning, and constant unavailability caused by day jobs has meant that getting much of anything achieved is a hard task. Although when the stars have been aligned, the payoffs have been worthwhile. Over the last two years they’ve been nominated in the top 5 artists in the country for the metal/hardcore category at the MusicOz Awards, and their song ‘Fire’ was selected for Dark Sky Record’s Underground Rising Vol.3 metal compilation in the United States, and now of course – playing Soundwave!
When asked about their reaction after being told they were to play Soundwave the guys replied “we screamed like little girls and ran around in circles!”

ISAW recorded a three track demo CD early in 2008, which has enjoyed frequent airplay on Triple J’s ‘The Racket’ hosted by Andrew Haug, and on Three D radio’s ‘Power Surge’. The quality and professionalism displayed on their demo has garnered rave reviews from fans and media alike. “The one and only disappointment in this debut recording from Adelaide’s ISAW is the fact that it’s only three tunes and over WAY too quickly! But boy do they pack some punch into those three tracks. To say these three songs leave you wanting more is a true understatement.” Buzz Magazine.

With a sometimes restrictive slant to perfectionism you can expect ISAW’s live show assault will be tight and relentless. They open Stage 4 at Adelaide’s Soundwave Festival at 11:00am in the morning, so make sure you’re there early to watch the guys rip the grass off Bonython Park, this is one appearance not to be missed.
