News : So it's the end of 2009…

By on January 1, 2010

So it’s the end of 2009, and what a year it has been. There have been stacks of huge releases both locally and internationally, which we’ll be reminding you of in our ‘Best of 2009’ lists early in the new year. Australia has seen a huge increase in the amount of tours coming our way, much to the disgust of our wallets, and it certainly isn’t slowing down next year with a slew of tours already announced.

For Metal Obsession, the year has been massive. The site underwent a huge facelift, and the frequency of content updates has jumped in leaps and bounds, and will keep doing so thanks to our new contributor system. We’ve reviewed pretty much every big metal tour that’s come through the country, and interviewed a large chunk of them too.

Outside of the content itself, we were very honored to win the award for Best Metal ‘Zine in the first Australian Metal Awards, which was certainly something we didn’t expect. The site was archived by Pandora, the National Library of Australia’s website database. And we’ve teamed up with Soundwave Touring to present Devin Townsend’s tour down under early next year!

To top it off, the amount of people regularly visiting the site has absolutely skyrocketed, which only makes us work even harder. So for those bands who don’t send in news or gigs, it’s about time you started!

Finally, we’d like to send out a massive thanks to the contributors who have written reviews and interviews for the site, every single band that has put in the bit of effort to send in their news, all of the companies and individuals who have worked with us to make sure everything is promoted as much as possible (there are too many of you to list, but you know who you are), and every visitor we’ve ever had.

We’re working on some big things for next year, in areas that we haven’t really delved into before, so expect an even stronger year next year. Oh, and don’t forget to buy your Devin Townsend tickets!

Cheers.
