News : Update from the The Red Shore crash court case

Bassist Jamie Hope of Geelong heavy metal band The Red Shore fell asleep at the wheel and crashed their van — the prosecutor told the District Court on the first day of the trial. The accident on the on the Pacific Highway on the NSW North Coast in 2007, killed singer Damien Morris and roadie Andy Milner.

The court was told the band left Brisbane immediately after a show for their next gig. Outside Coffs Harbour, a passenger noticed his eyes closing. Hope said he’d get some kip when they got into Coffs but got taken over by the zzzs. Hope is charged with two counts of driving in a manner dangerous causing death, and three of dangerous driving occasioning actual bodily harm. He was not on drugs or alcohol, and the van was not speeding. Hope told the court he was “fine to drive”. He later added, “I have never blamed anyone else for the crash.
