(Five Finger Death Punch)

w/ Nothing and The Omen

Hifi Bar – Melbourne, 15th August, 2009.

First up were The Omen, a young band hailing from Melbourne. Although a bit wet behind the ears, they are a band brimming with potential and were certainly a fitting support act for the main event.

Next up were Nothing. Having seen them previously when they supported Obituary in 2007, they have wasted no time over the last two years in fine-tuning their sound and improving their live show. With a second guitarist at the helm, the addition has filled out what felt like an empty space in their sound.

With the crowd revved up, the call-and-response style chant “Five finger..” “…DEATH PUNCH!” resonating across the room, they entered the stage, greeted the crowd then proceeded to tear up the Hi Fi Bar with raw energy, yet with precision.

Despite their whole set comprising songs from The Way of the Fist album, they performed with the impact of a wrecking ball and interacted with the crowd with sincerity and appreciation, something sorely lacking in a lot of bands of their ilk.

The only drawback to 5FDP‘s set was their relatively short set but that couldn’t be helped considering they only have one album out. With their set tonight as powerful as it was, imagine what fine form they will be when they tour on the War is the Answer album.
