Articles : ‘Best of 2008’ Readers Poll – Results

By on November 27, 2008

Here we have it, the official Metal Obsession’s Reader Poll for the best album’s heavy metal has to offer for that which was 2008. We opened the polls on December 1st, 2008 to a mini-flood of entries, and have now closed on January 18th to a late rush of submissions.

The big name releases always do well, as the labels would hope given the money that goes into promoting such an occasion. This year didn’t let them down in the International lists, with Opeth and Amon Amarth streaking away from most others. The same can be said for Australia’s #1 release of 2008, with Psycroptic almost doubling the amount of votes second place received.

However beyond those streaking away, what we found was a much closer race to the top 10, with many bands, especially Australian, making benefit of the groundswell of local support and word of mouth promotion to poll well beyond even their loftiest expectations.

Below you will see first your lists, both best albums and best gigs of 2008, followed by the 6 staff members’ lists. From all the Metal Obsession staff, we thank you for voting, and I know it will sound very cliche, but without you and the support you give, this site wouldn’t be where it is today!

Stay metal! \m/
