News : Psycroptic "Summer Slaughter" report
Australian tech-death band Psycroptic have issued a tour report at the end of the Summer Slaughter Tour, where they played alongside death metal greats such as Kataklysm and Vader in the US.
“Summers all gone for us with the end of the amazing Summer Slaughter Tour in the US – 35 shows of insanity right around the whole country! We are now back in the cold winter of Australia – yes it actually is very cold in Tasmania at the moment. The Summer Slaughter was Psycroptic’s first US tour and it was a huge success for us – we cannot wait to get back, and plans are already in the works!
The tour was hectic as hell for us – not only were we trying to focus on playing each day and sell merch, we were also trying to put together our new album ‘Ob(Servant)’…by listening to mixes of the songs sent to us via email, as well as making numerous international phone calls back to Australia to give our graphics guy Scott instructions on the booklet artwork. We should also send thanks to everyone who lent us a stereo to check things out on (thats you Black Dahlia and Whitechapel). Sometimes laptops with shitty sound just dont cut it to approve an album mix on.
The shows themselves were insane. Horns up to everyone who came out – the response we received from the US crowd made us feel very welcome, and eager to come back. You guys rule! Sick as hell!
As usual with any Psycroptic tour there were fun bumps to overcome that made things more interesting – trips to the emergency room in Florida (hi to the ambulance driver who loved Kataklysm and listened to Ozzy while driving), van breakdowns in Memphis (cheers once again Black Dahlia for letting us hitch on the bus for 3 days), trailer problems in and being stuck in the Arizona desert (thanks to the Faceless for lending us a tire iron), searches by cops in New Mexico, the constant negotiations with venues over ‘merch rates’ (this is a concept we had never heard of – the venue taking money off you for letting you sell merch!! How about a cut of the beer money then assholes?) and the list goes on. All fun and games! Wouldn’t change any of it though (except the hospital bill!).
To all the bands – Black Dahlia, Kataklysm, Cryptopsy, Aborted, Faceless, Whitechapel, Born of Osiris, Despised Icon and Vader – thanks for the killer times, and we look forward to doing it again very soon. Thanks to the Nuclear Blast crew as well for making us feel very welcome at our new home. Super thanks goes out to the new honorary Tasmanian Tony Reust (from Unmerciful) for filling in on vocals for the last leg of the tour, as Jason returned to Tasmania to welcome his first born daughter Audrey (who is doing very well by the way). Tony did a killer job – both in vocally and accent wise (your vocals are better than your accent though!) You rule bro!
Things are busy here for us at the moment, as we are prepairing for the release of the new album in mid October (on Nuclear blast worldwide, and Stomp in Australia) and all the fun touring that it will bring. We hope to see you all again very soon!”
Psycroptic recently signed to Nuclear Blast Records and have a new album titled “(Ob)servant” coming out soon. You can find more information on the bands Myspace.
